DC Water to Hold a Public Meeting on the Pressure Zone Improvement Program on February 26

February 21, 2014

DC Water is making improvements in its facilities and water distribution systems in some areas of the District. This will result in increased pressures for some in a project called the Pressure Zone Improvement Program (PZIP). One of these facilities is the Fort Reno Pumping Station in Northwest, DC. For this facility improvement, approximately 5,000 homes and businesses in Ward 3 will experience permanent increased water pressure in the near future. Within this number, there are 924 properties that will need to have a Pressure-Reducing Valve (PRV)
installed to protect indoor plumbing. This is because water pressures at these 924 properties will be permanently raised to above 80psi, commonly referred to as high water pressure. DC Water will purchase and install PRV’s in each of the designated properties with anticipated high water pressures, at no cost to property owners, while also providing general information to all affected property owners to ensure that they are aware of the PZIP and know what to expect during the water pressure increase.

DC Water will be holding a public meeting to share information on the program and to address any questions participants may have. Materials will include a brief but detailed presentation explaining the program, sample packets of information that will be mailed to affected customers, and also a viewing of three short videos produced by DC Water highlighting helpful, general
plumbing tips for residents.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the University of the District of Columbia, Building 44, room #A-03, 4200 Connecticut Avenue,
NW.

The PZIP is part of DC Water’s Capital Improvement Program to improve water system infrastructure throughout the District. Benefits of the project will include improved system reliability, increased water pressure in some areas, and adequate flows throughout the system.
