UPDATE: DC Water Restoring Water Service to Impacted Customers in Northeast DC
DC Water crews have been working diligently since the overnight hours to restore water service to customers in Northeast DC experiencing low or no water pressure. As we continue efforts to repair the leak suspected of causing the pressure drop, we have been able to temporarily reroute water through a different transmission main to service these customers. At this time, the water is being recharged, and we are slowly increasing the pressure to homes and businesses in this area.
Additionally, we have isolated a water main believed to be the primary source of the leak and will continue working throughout the night to make repairs.
In the meantime, the boil water advisory issued earlier today remains in effect, pending additional testing to confirm the water quality meets EPA standards.
The impacted neighborhoods include River Terrace, Mayfair, Eastland Gardens, Kenilworth, Deanwood, Central Northeast, and Anacostia Park.
DC Water advises customers to search their address on the interactive map at dcwater.com or call the 24-Hour Command Center at (202) 612-3400 to determine if they are in the impact area of this advisory. Customers in the impacted area should boil water used for drinking and cooking. Customers outside this area can continue normal water use.
Customers in the impact area should follow this guidance at this time:
• Discard any beverages and ice made after midnight on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
• Run cold water until clear (if discolored) prior to boiling.
• Run cold water for 2 minutes if known sources of lead are present prior to boiling.
• Bring water to a rolling boil for 1 minute and let it cool.
