WASA reminds customers to practice wise water use
WASA reminds customers to practice wise water use as the Washington metropolitan area continues experiencing soaring temperatures and very dry weather. While water demand is up, WASA is not experiencing water shortages but to be good stewards of our resources smart water usage should be a year round practice.
Current forecasts indicate that the unusual period of dry weather that the metropolitan Washington region has experienced since the spring is likely to continue. But the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Drought Coordination Committee reports that there is an adequate supply of water in the Potomac River and reservoirs to meet both current and future needs.
WASA offers the following water conservation tips:
*Always water lawns and gardens during the early morning or late evening hours, when temperatures are cooler, to minimize evaporation.
*Adjust sprinklers so only your garden is watered, not sidewalks, patios and streets.
*Dont hose down driveways or sidewalks. Use a broom to clean outside areas.
*Consider using a commercial car wash that recycles water. If you wash your own car, park on the grass and use a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle.
For addition information on wise water use check the WASA website. The Washington Council of Governments website has additional information on the regional consequences of the drought.
