DC Water joins forces with Western Union for cash and debit card payments

DC Water today announced that the Authority has contracted with Western Union to offer walk-in payments at locations throughout the Metropolitan DC region and many more across the country. Now, customers can make walk-in payments with cash or debit card near their work, near their home or even while they are out of town. Western Union® services are offered at Safeway, Giant Food, Walgreens, Harris Teeter, and many other locations such as convenience stores and check cashing facilities.

“We had two objectives in selecting a walk-in payment provider,” said DC Water CEO and President David L. Gadis. “We wanted to offer customers payment flexibility and we wanted to work with an experienced and trusted institution.”

Western Union is a leader in money movement services, and makes it possible for consumers to make payments with speed, ease and reliability.

DC Water originally closed its own walk-in payment center in 2016. Said Gadis, “This presented another opportunity to keep operating costs down while still providing a valuable customer service.”

There are no fees to send a walk-in payment. Currently, customers cannot pay a DC Water bill at the Rite Aid Agent locations, but they may be able to do so later this year. Customers may still pay by check or money order mailed to:

District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority
Customer Service Department
P.O. Box 97200
Washington, DC 20090

In addition, customers also still have the option to pay by check or credit card by telephone and online, either by setting up a My DC Water account or making one-time payments as a guest.
