DC Water invites media to celebrate Drinking Water Week, May 4 - 10

May 02, 2014

DC Water and regional water utilities are highlighting the value of tap water during National Drinking Water Week, May 4 - 10. Please join us in celebrating this important public service in our nations capital.

Opportunities for media engagement:

Interview with DC Water General Manager George Hawkins
He is available before the Nationals game on Monday (5/5) and after 3 p.m. on Tuesday (5/6).

Bottled vs. Tap Taste Test
Dupont Circle Farm Market, Sunday, May 4, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Put your taste buds to the test and grab a reusable bottle at our kick-off event.

Washington Nationals Drinking Water Week Promotion
Nationals Park, Monday, May 5, 5:30 - 8 p.m.
DC Water’s mascot, Wendy the Waterdrop, will be located on the main concourse near section 106, giving away reusable bottles and posing for photos with fans and the National’s mascots. Discounted tickets are available with the DCWATER coupon code at www.nationals.com/tickets.

Smithsonian Garden Fest: Water, Water, Everywhere
Enid A. Haupt Garden behind Smithsonian Castle, Friday, May 9, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
This free event features live music, guest speakers, fun activities and educational demonstrations for all ages. A “water bar” will offer free water, and utilities will give away reusable bottles to promote TapIt Metro D.C.

Given recent media attention on events like the West Virginia chemical spill, drinking water issues are top of mind. During these public events, utilities will celebrate the vital role that water plays in our lives and raise awareness about the need for infrastructure investment and water supply protection.
