Dry Weather Overflow Advisory

November 18, 2021

DC Water was notified at 2:00 p.m. today, November 18, 2021, of a dry weather overflow event at CSO 029 due to a leak from an 18” sewer pipe into a storm sewer pipe that discharges to the Potomac River. The leak is located near 3800 Reservoir Road, NW. DC Water has notified regulatory agencies EPA Region III and DOEE, and stakeholders including District officials and the Coast Guard. We have also contacted the nearby boathouses.  This notification is made out of an abundance of caution. A DC Water crew is on location and has engaged a contractor familiar with this sewer line to further investigate and develop a repair plan.

The Potomac River is fast moving and this small amount of sewage should dilute quickly. But, as always, the public is advised to stay away from any sewer pipe discharge. It could affect the receiving waters even after the leak is fixed. Anyone on the Potomac today who came in contact with the water near CSO 029 should take precautions by bathing and washing equipment and clothing.
