Meet Your Water Utility in Your Ward

March 05, 2012

Beginning this month, DC Water will partner with District Councilmembers to host several town hall meetings across the city. In these meetings, General Manager George S. Hawkins will address environmental programs, future water and sewer projects and issues facing local communities.

George Hawkins will personally invite many DC residents to the Town Hall Meetings through a robocall of individuals who have contacted DC Water with questions or concerns in the past.

"I feel very passionately about the critical service that we provide," said DC Water General Manager George S. Hawkins. "Water is life and without it, civilizations cannot survive, let alone thrive. These meetings are important because they give me the opportunity to share with customers why it’s important we do the work we have planned, and how that affects their rates."

Hawkins continued, "However, we do recognize that any rate increase may be a burden to our customers who struggle financially. That is why I strive to meet our customers in their neighborhoods to directly address all their concerns. We bring representatives from various departments to these meetings to proactively discuss upcoming projects and answer questions on a range of topics."

Meetings will be held in each ward and feature information on water quality, construction projects, employment, and customer service. Specific discussion topics will include water and sewer rates, drinking water, infrastructure, job opportunities and efforts to help clean local rivers. Meeting dates and locations follow below. More information is also available at dcwater.com/rates.

A public hearing regarding the 2013 proposed rates will be held on Wednesday, May 9 at 6:30 pm. The location is to be determined. For more information, please call the Office of External Affairs at 202-787-2200.

All Town Hall meetings begin at 6:30 pm.
